Thermoscreens Cold Chain Air Curtains address the demand for a more effective and efficient solution in this fast-paced, temperature sensitive environment. The Thermoscreens Cold Chain range solve the challenges of temperature control, offering a tailored solution for the chilled and refrigerated areas within the catering facility, and are ideally suited to providing climate separation in high traffic refrigerated areas.

The CS Air Curtain, designed for environments as cold as -25 degrees Celsius, is ideally suited for use within the cold store.  The HE Air Curtain can maintain climate separation to 5 degrees, and the RA Air Curtain has been designed to maintain climate separation in refrigerated areas down to 0 degrees.

The Cold Chain Air Curtains utilise powerful, energy efficient air streams to create an invisible barrier that separates conditioned air from external environments.  Unlike traditional methods, this solution allows catering staff to move freely and efficiently without compromising temperature control. An added advantage of the range is the availability of an IP66 rated, stainless steel air curtain which is suitable for use where hygiene standards are more rigorous.  The IP66 rated air curtain can be chemically cleaned and washed down.

When Thermoscreens Cold Chain Air Curtains are installed, cooling systems operate effectively with less strain , reducing energy consumption, lowering operational costs and protecting food safety.

Suggested Applications:

The Thermoscreens CS (Cold Store) Air Curtain is specifically designed for cold storage environments. Its primary function is to conserve energy by preventing the loss of expensive conditioned air. This innovative system significantly reduces the workload on existing condensers and chillers, leading to substantial cost savings. By maintaining a consistent internal temperature, the CS Air Curtain not only lowers energy consumption but also operational costs, making it an essential addition to any cold storage facility.

Advanced Technology for Climate Control

Positioned inside the cold store, the air curtain employs energy-efficient EC fans to recirculate ambient air, creating a robust thermal barrier. This barrier is crucial in preventing the ingress of warm ex-ternal air, thereby maintaining the cold store’s internal conditioned environment. Thermal imaging results demonstrate the air curtain’s effectiveness in creating a clear temperature distinction between the cold internal environment and the warmer external air, ensuring optimal climate control.

Preventing Ice Build-Up

A unique feature of the CS Air Curtain is its built-in frost protection, which minimizes the buildup of hoarfrost and ice – common issues in traditional cold storage. This not only enhances safety for employees who are trying to transport goods in and out, but also reduces costs related to frequent defrosting and equipment maintenance.

Sustainable and Efficient Alternative

The CS Air Curtain offers a more sustainable and efficient solution compared to traditional methods like PVC strip curtains or insulated doors. These conventional methods often fail to maintain constant climate separation, leading to energy loss and increased costs. In contrast, the CS Air Curtain provides effective climate separation without the need for frequent replacements or maintenance, thereby reducing overall costs and environmental impact.

Impact on Sustainability

The CS Air Curtain contributes significantly to sustainability in the cold chain. Its efficient EC fans and ability to maintain stable temperatures reduce the need for frequent defrost cycles, thereby sav-ing energy and operational costs. This reduction in energy usage not only lowers carbon emissions but also decreases the frequency of service visits, further reducing carbon footprint.

Cost and Environmental Benefits

Integrating the CS Air Curtain into cold stores can lead to substantial savings and environmental benefits. With potential annual savings of £15,472 and a reduction of 23,322kg CO2 per year for a typical cold store, the air curtain offers a quick return on investment. Additionally, by eliminating the need for PVC strips, it significantly reduces plastic waste, contributing to a more sustainable operation.

Comprehensive Monitoring System

The CS Air Curtain can also be equipped with a sophisticated monitoring system, including temperature sensors and a door switch to track temperature changes and door opening frequency. This system provides valuable insights into the air curtain’s impact on maintaining internal conditions and the resultant energy savings.

Pre Air Curtain

The graph below evidences the temperature within the cold store before the air curtain was installed. The blue line indicates that the peak temperature in the coldstore exceeded 7.5°C. The orange box shows the defrost cycle, which affects the air temperature within the room, bringing it down to -1°C. The green box illustrates a temperature difference of apporximately 5°C between the front and the backof the room. Lastly, the red box marks the compressor turning off after reaching the set point, with this cycle lasting 15 minutes.
